My original interest some years ago was creating a residential buildings-only “Eco Village” on my 7,652sqm block at 3-5 Saje Court Cowra - but in recent years I have been spending most of my time working on my BioMedical projects and so I am only just now revisiting some of the ideas that might also be useful for these projects.
Since last time I posted there have been a small number of “Community Battery” projects installed in NSW and other states so I am thinking that this now might be an opportune time for me to try and create another one of these on my block in Cowra. My block is opposite the New Cowra Hospital which is currently being built next to the old one (which I would like to preserve because of its heritage value!).
However, my interest has shifted somewhat from creating a residential-only “Eco Village” to also including buildings to house some of my Biomedical Research projects - including hopefully CT / MRI machines for brain imaging. If I can organise the funding I would have a 50x30m basement space that could be used for battery and water containers, machinery, storage etc.
I am thinking of getting started with a small (single shipping container) sized unit from VSUN. This should be able to support a dozen or so buildings on my own site and possibly more neighbours later - and perhaps act as an emergency backup for the larger grid.
If there is sufficient interest interest in the idea of a community battery, the question becomes “Which battery technology to use?”.
If my ‘Master Plan’ works out, I want to also store water for the next drought!
